It needs to happen. The rest of the country is propping up the DC area at unnecessarily spending levels.

Are you prepared for the ripple effects in DCs 'bubble economy'? The wave could hit you, PP. Restaurants, restaurant workers, housing, shops, etc. Not to mention these are good people, doing good work to protect you. Defense is not made-up. Do you have any idea what these people actually do?

Well if they cancel the over the top casino nights and xmas parties at the Ritz maybe they won't have to lay anyone off. I am a fed and my friends who work for defense contractors make a lot of money and get a lot of perks the feds don't get.

Obama's new norm

Boeing's layoffs have nothing to do with the fiscal cliff, and I doubt the SAIC layoffs mentioned above were related to it either.(Contracts end all the time, resulting in layoffs) As for my bet on defense jobs in the DC area, I'd say the difference between now and six months from now will be negligible. Some cuts will be made, other areas will continue to grow, and overall defense spending in this area won't change much.

With the election decided and the fiscal cliff approaching does anyone have any estimates on many defense jobs will be cut in the DC area?

Boeing has already announced large layoffs nationally.
