$900k gives you lots of options, including nice TH options in North Arlington. If that doesn't do, you can get your McMansion in Ashburn/Urbana, or your lovely house built in 18-something in Leesburg/Frederick/Annapolis/Fredericksburg.

My advice is to research high schools, narrow it down to two or three high school pyramids, then look in those areas.

900K will not buy you a decent sized house in north arlington.

+1. There are many neighborhoods in N. Arlington that would meet your requirements seemingly better than some of the other suggestions.

Seriously - not sure why you wouldn't stay here. We've lived in Arlington for 12 years and we love it. Schools are great, lots of great neighborhoods. Alcova Heights, Lyon Park, Westover, etc.

Perhaps Rockville, if you'd consider MD? It has a more diversity than Bethesda/Chevy Chase, but Richard Montgomery and Rockville are still very good highschools. THere's new construction and some neat historic homes not too far from metro/marc. And the Rockville Town Center is kind of fun. I used to quietly chuckle about it seeming a bit un-organic and purposefully built to house chain restaurants...but the huge library on the plaza with the splash fountains, in a pedestrian walking zone to an ice cream shop and a family restaurant/brew pub (Gordon Biersch, I think, or CapCity or something like that) that's endlessly patient with kids got to be way more fun when I had nieces and nephews.

Takoma Park, MD.

You could get an amazing house in that budget in the 20905 area of MD, which is like five minutes from the Glenmont metro station.

4-5 bedrooms sounds big.

Hoping to get some neighborhood suggestions because DH and I seem to be all over the map, literally. We currently live in a townhouse in South Arlington and like the area. We both work in downtown DC, but are able to work from home three days a week. We have two small children and are outgrowing our townhouse, but we are having trouble finding a neighborhood that meets our needs, mostly because we don't know where to look. We are looking for a 4 to 5 bedroom house with a decent sized yard in a neighborhood that has good schools, diversity, lots of other families with young children, and a sense of community. We would like to spend under $900k, and we aren't looking for a fixer upper. Because we only have to commute in two days a week, we are willing to live a little further out if it means a nicer house. Anyone have a favorite neighborhood that meets that criteria? TIA!
