Doodles aren't registered breeds so the AKC probably won't help.

OP is there a purebred dog you might consider?

Yes, but breeders - legitimate ones - are a tight knit group and often know who is breeding what. That was my point.

An AKC breeder will not help you with selecting any sort of mixed dog. They're breeders. They would just be: wtf?

We got our goldenddoodle at Laurel Ridge Goldendoodles and couldn't be happier. Puppies there are healthy (breeder is also a vet) and prices were reasonable. They have a website
http://laurelridgegoldendoodles.com/

They are located in Blacksburg, VA.

There are rescues for every breed. Relax, this is not a shelter. It's a rescue (rehoming) group. With many people out of work, families are having to surrender the dogs that they got from breeders.

Buying a dog directly from a breeder is no guarantee that there won't be problems. In fact, the chances of problems are higher, due in part to the very close line breeding that occurs (but that they won't advertise)

Google goldendoodle rescue. You will have no problem finding a dog who needs a home.

I'm also open to labradoodles.

I'm in the Richmond area, but I'm willing to travel to the DC or Baltimore area if needed.

And please don't waste your time talking about shelter dogs and how I should do that instead. I applaud people who do that, but I have tried it twice before and it hasn't worked. I won't comment or reply to unhelpful posts. Thanks!
