Agree with 11:33/11:38 - the kitchen OP described sounds very dated to me...and bland brown

Slate floors in gray but warm because they are from the earth. With heating pad underneath so actually warm too. Impervious, not slippery, not damaged by anything including water or grease.

I love it. But I tend to favor minimalist clean-lined decor. I don't think it's cold, but rather, bright. Some of the "warmer" colors in kitchens that were big in the 90s (browns and cherry and greens) sometimes look dark and dingy to me--like a sepia photograph.

We are doing something like the picture, with the warmer floor, white cabinets, grayish countertops and light backsplash. We are painting the walls BM Wythe Blue. Hope it looks as good as the picture!

11:33 here, and fwiw, I really also don't like the kind of kitchen OP described. It feels so dated and brown and dark, and as we have been looking for a house to buy, it's such a turn off because it looks old and cheap.

yep! I'm in the process of planning one now. I'm so excited about it. I think there are ways to warm them up... other colors, lighting, etc... I also like a little bit of a lighter floor (like in the picture posted above) because it is warmer than the very dark wood.

You mean kind of like this (but with darker floors)? If so, I love it.

There are some nice taupey gray colors that are warm and inviting, and I prefer those to blue-gray colors in living areas of the home. But I do really like the combo of gray walls and white cabinets in kitchens, and like PP, I would add in fun pops of color like yellow or lime green in there.

I love grays and an a huge fan of white kitchens. I love the crisp cleaness and brightness of a white kitchen and dream of white shaker cabinets. I am not at all a fan of cherry cabinets. I love pops of colot with gray walls, especially yellow and gray.

I have gone for a lot of beige/cream neutrals - either linen white or more of an oatmeal color. We have a lot of oriental rugs with deep blues and reds so gray would not work even if I wanted it to.

Same here. I think only designers keep pushing these cold colors. I actually see many new homes with these colors sit on the market.

I actually like the gray, but don't have it in my house precisely because it (a) is in kind of cold looking and (b) wouldn't go with anything we own. we still have warm neutrals all over our house. (though my dad swears the silver sage paint in my family room is "gray." It's not.)

I think the new trendy colors are so COLD. I still prefer the cherry cabinets, brownish granite countertops and yellow or beige walls. Anybody feels the same?
