Another vote for the lands end. It also has an interior fleece that loops over thumbs, so hands get a little protection even when they refuse to wear gloves. We're on winter number two with ours becase of the thing where you can lengthen the arms.

We did LL Bean for our 2 year old. I have a thinner one that I would consider his fall coat (I think it's got a lining) and the heavier parka for winter that I generally would not need to put a fleece on underneath (although I did today so that when he was at school and took off the coat, he'd be warm enough).

We got DD an LL Bean down coat.

Question for parents - do you layer a fleece under the coat or is the coat enough?

Lands End here too. Bought it a size too big last year when DS was 2, and it also has a feature whereby you can lengthen the arms and get another year out of it. DS will wear it for 3 years, then his little brother will wear it for 3 more. Great coat.

We also love our Land's end coat. Got it on the big side last year, still fits great this year. Washes well.

lands end. the customer service is amazing. don't get something too bulky otherwise you'll have a heck of a time getting him into the car seat.

We love our Columbia fleece+outer shell. It zips together or can be used separately. It is wind and water proof with the outer shell...or perfect for the milder weather with the fleece alone.

I found an $80 columbia reversible winter jacket/snow pants set at TJ Maxx last year for $30.

Between last year's mild winter and my son's age, we didn't need a serious winter coat last year but this year I think we do. Ideally, I'd love something super warm (though may need a fleece underneath in the coldest weather) that can also go in the carseat, but if we have to take it on and off, we will deal with that, too. What do you like for a 2 year old?
