thought that might be the case... i always see other kids in big daycare strollers being pushed around the Mt. Vernon area - just not sure where they are. I think there may be one in the big church at 9th and Mass Ave?

My daughter has been at the BH in East End for almost two years. We've been very happy there. It's gone through a lot of change with an expansion/merging with another BH center. The administrators handled it well and the majority of the teachers stayed. It is $$$ but worth it. Long waiting list though.

My son's preschool, Scrilli School, takes children beginning at 2 years of age. Very affordable ($800/month), run by very loving nuns. We have many families from Bloomingdale, etc. It's been around for decades--a mother in my son's class was a student at the school over 20 years ago!

We live in Shaw and our first daughter went to Bright Horizons East End which was GREAT but $$$$. It isn't in Shaw but easily walkable and on the way to/from downtown. Made for very easy drop offs and pick ups. Every time I walk past the Northwest Settlement house the kids look happy and engaged... I'm interested in hearing from parents who are there as well (we are in a nanny share with our 2nd now)

Bumping this discussion up to see if anyone has any insights in 2014... I haven't yet looked at Kingdom Kids, but it's on my list. I went to Northwest Settlement House at 7th and S and it wasn't too bad.

There's Home Away from Home at New Jersey and R. With so many young kids around Shaw/Bloomingdale/Ledroit I hoped there would be more, good options, but seems there isn't much around.

Any suggestions? Anything I'm missing?

Try First Baptist near Scott Circle (not in Shaw but not so far away)

I am looking for a childcare center for my 2.5 year old. Has anyone heard of or have feedback for Kingdom Kids at Springfield Baptist Church in DC? Any suggestions for a childcare center will be much appreciated!
