Op I would use age to size theory and staple a gift receipt to one of the tags so the items could be returned if they don't fit. Also try to think in terms of basic items that can be mixed and matched. When I do this for the angel tree I always include socks, a hat and gloves.

Funny 14:19. I've found the cheap brands run really big ( sears and children's place boys) and the expensive brands ( tea collection ) run small/ true to size. The exception is HA, which is just really wide.

FWIW, I find Old Navy sizing to be really weird for my own son, so I stay away from it when buying clothing for charity purposes because I have never seen the kids.

Thanks all. OP here. I think I will just stick to buying the clothes in the sizes suggested. I was thinking maybe I would buy them a few toys/games etc but as I don't know their height/weight/age - I could be way off.

I am told this is for a single mom / 2 kids who recently left a violent relationship with almost none of their belongings beyond what they were carrying. That is all I know. I am wondering if maybe just giving her some cash might be more appreciated then buying her kids clothes...?

My 3 yo girl wears size 12 shoes--I would hesitate to buy shoes for any kid I didn't know. Then again, she wears 5T, the little giantess.

depends on the brand...cheaper brands run small (target) and better brands tend to run true to size (Gap). I have to buy up 2 sizes for my daughter in target...

My kids are small/ slim for age- 9 yr old wears a 7 slim and 7yr old wears 4. Smaller in swim trunks.
My 9 yr old niece is tall, but not chunky and wears a 10/12.

Generally kids' clothing size correlates with average size for that age. So average 6 year old girl wears a size 6 or 6/7.

Some kids, of course, are smaller or taller and may wear a smaller or bigger size.

My daughters (twins) wear size 6. They just turned 5, slightly taller than average. My guess from the fact that they said 6/7 that the girl is 6.

I think, unless you know the children are very tall, very small etc... that you should follow the general rule for age.

Go with the age thing and don't buy fitted clothes, or too big clothes (husky sizing).

My kids are very skinny and usually have to go down in pants/shorts, even with the pull elastic waist.

Totally depends on the kid. Neither of my kids are heavy. They are tall. My 9 year old boy wears a 12 and my 2 year old girl wears a 3 or 4.

The boys would be ages 7 or 8 and the girls would be ages 6 or 7. Children's clothing is so simple - wish adult sizing was too.
