OP here - I agree - that is what I told him, but I think if the rest of us are all downstairs - he'll come too. Luckily the kids think it is a cool adventure.

We know it's not a tornado, but we also know that trees often fall down when it rains a lot and when there is wind. The rain softens the ground which is conducive to falling trees.

I was also thinking we'd "sleep" in the basement tonight. I probably won't catch even a wink of sleep down there. I only sleep well in my own, comfortable bed!

We have numerous tall trees surrounding our house, they appear to be healthy. If you were us, would you sleep in the basement tonight or is that not necessary?
