But if you mean beautiful part of DC, how about J&G Steakhouse, with a drink on the rooftop bar overlooking Treasury and the White House? (Warning, that may stretch the budget a bit.)

Or, maybe Sushi Taro (next door to Komi) and a walk around Dupont Circle afterward?

Or Georgetown. I don't go there often; maybe others have good recs.

Capitol Hill is beautiful, but not known for great dining. Anyone who lives there want to give up their neighborhood secrets?

I have heard very good things about Zest Bistro.

For a fun but cheaper option, get martinis at Russia House then eat next door at Bistro du Coin. Great food too.

How about Oval Room? After dinner, you can walk across Lafayette Square in front of the White House.
(And if you're up for it, you can have a drink at the Off the Record bar at the Hay-Adams afterward.)

BTW, same neighborhood (north of the White House)--if your husband is into champagne, they do a thing at the St. Regis happy hour where the sommelier sabres open a bottle of champagne in the lobby and then there's champagne for everyone.
Don't stay for dinner, though. Adour has ok food but is pricey--there's better value nearby.

My DH and I just celebrated our 10th; we went to Fiola, while it does not get great reviews. We had a wonderful time, and were treated well. Even the owner (wife) came to our table to wish us Happy Anniversary. Wonderful dining experience.

Agree with Rasika if you like upcale Indian food. The original, not west end. Let them know that it's your anniverary and they will treat you well (wine/extra dessert/ congratulations). Must order the Palak Chat (sp). If budget is an issue, order the pre fix menu! P.S. Make reservations a few months ahead of time. Yummy.

Rasika (upscale Indian)
Central (bistro food)
Proof (extensive wine list)
I want to try Mintwood (may be a good option.)

I'd love Komi or Inn at Little Washington, but these are out of our price range. I think no more than $200 for the total meal would be ideal. It is our five year anniversary and we'd really like to do something special, delicious, and romantic. We moved directly to the DC suburbs and have never lived in the city, so it would be a plus to be in a beautiful part of town.
