No need to be sarcastic. NP here. A tree fell on our house during the derecho this summer and would have certainly injured us if we were home and sleeping in our bedrooms. DD's window was completing blown in with glass everywhere, including the hallway 20 feet from the window itself. The winds from this storm are expected to be more severe. I think it's smart that people are cautious about their safety. No need to be dismissive, PP.

I am so sorry to hear what happened to your home, but thank God you all were not there! Other poster...Don't be fooled by Category 1. There was a whole write up in the post or somewhere about this. It's all the systems coming together and this is an unprecedented event that doesn't look good.

I don't understand what this means: all the systems coming together. Not being snarky here. I am looking at weather.com and I can't figure out why this is the "perfect storm."

As I understand it, a hurricane in normal conditions would move out to sea, weakening as it goes. But currently, there is a low pressure system to the north over the Atlantic and a Nor'easter coming from the north west. Those two other systems are preventing Sandy from heading harmlessly out to sea, instead forcing her west, onto land. The Nor'Easter is also feeding energy to Sandy. Thus Sandy is gaining strength and heading for major population areas.

Hurricane bringing rain and winds meeting up with a low pressure system bringing colder air and snow. The latter will intensify the diminishing hurricane system and make it a huge storm with wind, rain and possibly snow.

How about just sleeping there tonight so you don't have to wake anyone up to move if it gets windy in the middle of the night?

WTOP said tomorrow morning.

I think we'll sleep upstairs tonight and downstairs tomorrow night. IF it seems to get too windy, we can always move. I'm a light sleeper, so I'll wake up if the wind gets to be too crazy.

Wondering if we should plan to sleep downstairs tonight.
