Sell it! Get one of these hysterical ninnies to buy it for more than you bought it for.

You all are fucking nuts!

We sold a home with a standby and now have a portable.

That thing was golden and saved our food, kept the kids secure, and kept us warm.

morons - all of you thinking of selling!

but it isn't freezing cold out. I've had my windows open all day. it's gorgeous weather temperature wise.

But it won't be on Tuesday. They're calling for temps to fall into the 30s.

I guess OP doesn't even have a refrigerator or deep freezer he/she is interested in running? If not, then go for selling it.

I think you'd get a buyer too. Are you sure there isn't anything you'd want electricity for? Hair dryer? Microwave? Electric toothbrush?

I think you'd get a buyer for sure if you want to sell it.

I would think about how much money I could sell it for and then no regret it even if I lost power. I would offer it for sale for that price. There might be no takers but someone might be desperate. And then if someone slows up and are grateful because they won't lose their breast milk you can lower your price to them..... So that you are still comfortable with your decision overall!

It really is your personal decision. For us, we always lose power during these threats and losing power when it is freezing cold out, for days or even a week, really does suck. I would not get rid of my generator.

Will you be kicking yourself if you sell it and then lose power for a week? If not, then go for it.

Put it in Craigslist and see what happens.

Sell it! Put it on CL and even DCUM.

I vote for no generator, unless you have some pressing medical needs or job requirements that make it urgent.

I prefer making do with flashlights, coolers, ice.

We bought this generator about 14 months ago when we were supposed to lose power during a storm and I had a freezer full of breastmilk:

http://www.homedepot.com/Outdoors-Outdoor-Power-Equipment-Generators-Portable-Generators/Husky/h_d1/N-5yc1vZbx9nZrd/R-202048857/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&storeId=10051#.UI1Ko45Q1R4

We ended up not losing power that time, so we didn't use the generator. Then we lost power for 4 days during the derecho, and we still didn't use the generator because it was just too much trouble since I no longer had milk I was trying to save and it wasn't big enough to run the A/C. So now we have this Franken-Storm coming, and it seems like the perfect time to unload this thing that is taking up space in our garage. I"m not thinking of price gouging anybody, but I would like to recoup the money we spent on it and all the heavy duty extension cords if I could.

But then I think, "what if this storm is really destructive, and we need end up needing the generator?" We have a gas stove that can be lit manually and car chargers for our cell phones. What would DCUM do?
