Schools have a lot of detractors, yes. It's a pretty dysfunctional system all in all. That said, ACPS does have its boosters.
There are plenty of DCUM folks with kids currently enrolled in the ACPS middle schools that seems very happy with it. If you search the forums, you'll also see the haters. We are in elementary with ACPS intend to stick with the district all the way through high school. Alexandria always has "scarier" test score numbers that neighboring districts, due in part to it having a higher number of FARMS and ESL students. This does not mean that the quality of education is less, and again, many parents of current students report that their children are thriving in an academically challenging environment.
