My neighbor did the roll of plastic. Punched holes in it with a hole punch and zip-tied it to the railings at either end. Didn't look pretty but kept her kid from sticking his head through there.

i used a thick plastic that came in a roll. I got it at Great Beginnings.

+1. You are going to own this house longer than you need baby proofing. Don't install something permanent, just use netting or fabric for a temporary fix.

I wouldn't use any sort of plexi or glass, think of how dirty it would get.
Would it be possible to match the slats and double up on them narrowing the space inbetween?

We're buying a cool midcentury modern town home; there are slats at the stair railing that are too wide; we want to keep the airy feel of the open floor plan. Has anyone used plexi glass or tempered glass in this kind of situation? was it expensive? any other ideas?
