Absolutely. I think it can be a good thing. It's tough but I think the challenges and the hard times help you grow.
Then again there are some really shitty things that shouldn't happen to anyone like losing a child, getting raped, being sent to prison for a crime you never committed and so on. But as for life kicking you in the teeth, get through the hard times and grow and learn from them.

I don't think anyone gets though life unsacthed. But there are degrees of scathing that people experience - some get a much worse life to deal with than others.

My hypothesis is that as I have reached the 30s and have children, my circle of acquaintance is much larger and older and therefore I hear of more difficulties (and experience my own). Someone's elderly parents with cancer, DH laid off, children with disabilities, friend coping with depression, etc.
It could be worse.

The first 33 years of mine were to-die-for amazing. I even loved jr. high and high school. But it's been kicking me in the a$$ for the past 3 years. sounds cynical, but i have a huge, huge family and it seems that it gets everyone at some point or another
and the people you think are getting through unscathed eventually get kicked too (sometimes they didnt realize something was going on and the rug is ripped right out from under them)
