DH had same issue -- quick trip to ER with an infected gall bladder that had to come out not too long after check-in (he came down suddenly ill with an infection).

DS was born at Georgetown, and remained in the NICU for 2 weeks. While it was terrific from a medical standpoint...I would have loved to have been closer to home on those endless days and night.

Have been to Suburban's ER 5 times with DS as a toddler.





While I would not have selected house solely on hospital proximity, I like the comfort of knowing it's just blocks away should we need it.

we're not far - maybe 2 miles? Haven't really had to utilize it yet.

We lived maybe 1.5 miles to the local hospital when I was pregnant. Since I was due in mid-February, we joked about putting me on a snowmobile if I happened to go into labor during a blizzard. However, it happened to be 60 degrees the the day I went to be induced - it was a mild winter. Darn.

Hospitals galore in Bethesda and Arlington/fairfax and NW DC.
Where are you concerned about? And if it is it side the beltway, won't a main artery (270 or 66 or 95) get you there quickly if not the wrong side of rush hour?

Our summer house is 30 mins from a hospital and it does seem a little far, although in 20 years we've only gone there once.

We're inside the beltway so we have three hospitals with 5 miles but I would not consider it to be an issue in selecting a home. I would only care if someone in my family had a major medical issue.

3 miles, took less than ten minutes in an ambulance last month. 30 minutes from hospital = really far from most other things, too, I imagine.

Really? People consider this when buying a house? Would you never live in the country, or go into the Peace Corps, or live somewhere you couldn't drive to the nearest hospital in 30 minutes? We happen to be 5 minutes from the hospital, but I had never thought of it as a perk. I worry about lots of crazy stuff, I just have a different set of crazy.

5 minutes. I could walk it in about 15.

Less than a mile. Its convienient.

0.5 mile. It was one of the selling points for us that right outside out neighborhood is the local hospital. We previously lived about 2 miles from the hospital. I would not want to live more than about 5-10 miles from some hospital personally.

5 minutes. 28 minutes would be too far for us, but that's because we have it five minutes away.

How far are you from the nearest hospital? Would you think that 28-30 minutes is too far?
