It depends on the school. I think each school has some type of before/after care on site that is contracted. For example, at our school it is through the Bethesda Y. The quality of care and structure depends on the lead caregiver in the room. I disliked the after care when my daughter was in K, but liked the care when she was in 1st. Now, she is in 2nd and she has a nanny, but that is because we had another child, not because we were unhappy with the care at the school.

At our school, there are also two other after cares that serve the school and the kids take the bus there after school.

Call your school and ask and then you can look into options.

We are starting to think about our transition from daycare to kindergarten and are wondering about what the before and after care situations are like? We've heard about experiences in other states where kids are just put in a cafeteria together without much structure (which drive our friends to get a nanny). Is this the experence in Rockville? Is it the same across all elementary schools?
