I work at an elementary school also. I am due in January so I actually told my principal early in my pregnancy (around early June). I asked him to keep it quiet as I didn't tell the rest of the staff until we returned in September. I wanted him to know and to be aware in case anything happened. I am fortunate that my principal is such an understanding and caring boss. I am sure that your principal will be thrilled for you!

I'm an ES principal, and I was pregnant both as a teacher and as an administrator. You can wait until you're 12 weeks along, after the first trimester. I had my first child in July, and waited until then to tell my principal. I scheduled my appts for as late in the day as possible so I didn't need much coverage if I needed to leave early.

Please don't feel nervous. I can assure you that you are not the first, nor the last teacher to be pregnant. It's just what we expect when we work in a place where most of the employees are women of child-bearing age. I'm always very happy for anyone who shares that she's pregnant.

I just posted about my headaches so I thought I would ask my other question. I teach in an ES and I am not due until June. If you teach, when did you tell your boss? This is my forst year at my school too. Luckily, I am due a week or two after school ends so it isn't a matter of needing a sub to cover for me but I feel nervous about telling him when I just started this year. Thanks!
