This is a trick question. By the time they're old enough to go alone, they're too old to be trick or treating still.

About 10 or 11, with a group of friends in the neighborhood. We lived in a safe neighborhood in a suburban development.

Around our street at 7/8 with the other neighborhood kids. About 11 on their own with friends to other streets.

DD is 13 and has been trick or treating with friends and no adults for about 3 years now. We live in a fairly safe residential neighborhood.

DD will TOT with friends and no parent for the first time this year. She is 12. Might have allowed it sooner, but this is the first time she's asked.

I'll let my son go this year with his buddies if he wants. He's almost 11. The streets are full of kids and parents and cops drive by every so often just checking in.

My child is 9 and while I'd be comfortable this year, he has a younger brother who will tag a long, so it's not happening.

It's usually middle schoolers that I see that don't have parents with them, usually 11+

Brooklyn - Older DD is 9 - she and her friends will be allowed to run up and down our block and I'll be outside on our stoop, so we'll be in yelling distance.
Younger DD is almost 6 - she will go with an adult.

I live in DC. My kids are too young to go ToT by themselves, but I see neighborhood kids who are middle school age going around by themselves (with friends). Maybe upper elementary.

Probably around age 9. I live in a planned community in a suburb.

OP here; I just realized my post sounds like it could be (which I'm not!!) someone searching for kids trick-or-treating w/o parents. Because you just don't know what kind of nuts are out there today. So just disregard the "where you live" and if you're so inclined maybe just info about the type of area you live in, if you think it's relevant to the decision about ages of the kids. Thanks.

Preferably in a group, and where do you live / what kind of neighborhood / any other info you want to add. Thanks.
