Queen Latifah is 42 and the actress who played Shelby is 26. Trust me, it was distracting. This is random, but I just googled and found out the actress who played Shelby is Phylicia Rashad's real life daughter.


I just posted that I thought she was around 50. So, she is only 42. She seems older and has been around forever. Oh well. I guess the numbers are off.

She's roughly fifty years of age. The age adds up, especially for the south.

If that were the case, there would be no point in restaging any play. A play is not "the same" just because it has the same script. Different case, different direction, different milieu, different context, different thrust.

The "help" preparing for the wedding were white, and the families were black. I thought that was interesting. Some of the references were modernized. . ."If you can type and have a facebook page, you can have a past." Some of the literal dialogue from the original just didn't work. It didn't seem authentic.

I watched. I was also hoping to also see the Carlina White movie but I missed it again. I liked the original Steel Magnolias better but it is that way with every remake that I watch.
