He even admitted he was lazy to Barbara Walters. Incoherence, laziness and poor hygiene are not good qualities in a leader.

Your problem is that you have a President that even many of us who support him admit is far from perfect, and instead of using the significant flaws of his administration, you keep harping on this odor nonsense. Either you're a liberal troll trying to make conservatives look bad, or you just get off on the fact that you manage to con us liberals into wasting time responding to you (which I almost always refuse to do, except for moments of weakness like this, when I happen to have nothing useful to do).

Obama won the primaries in part because of his "story", but also, and perhaps more so, because his campaign staff did a better job of calculating the delegate numbers. Don't forget that Hillary was beating him in plenty of states; but he put together a bigger package of delegates.

I'm not sure what that says about 2008, or what that predicts about 2012, but I think it complicates the picture of the guy who won because we were all blinded by the glory of his story and his oratory.

After the Bush administration, many people were looking for something different. Obama was much more different than McCain. Obama has turned into a mediocre president. He is far from the worst, but also far from the best president out there. He will probably go down in rating somewhere between the 10th and 25th ranked presidents depending on the individual poll, criteria, etc.

Obama is not a strong president, but a competent one. However, with the slow and disappointing economic recovery, this really should be the Republican ticket's chance to regain the White House, but the crop of candidates that was put up was lackluster and unattractive. The best candidates were far too conservative (good for the Tea Party, but bad for the rest of the Republicans and the county in general) and the more acceptable candidates were all pretty indistinguishable. If you had a reasonable conservative, but not ultra-conservative candidate who had political experience and a trusted record, they could easily win this election, but the Republicans don't have anyone with both the political charisma and acumen that isn't offensively ultra-conservative.

i mean weve had other black people run for president so i think his "story" as you call it did play a lot into it. its not just his race.

He was the first black man that stood a chance at winning. While his campaign itself didn't focus on his race the rest of the country did. In an honest discussion you can't talk about his election without race playing a role. I have said from his first campaign, that Obama faced a much harder time as our president, not because of his race but because those that supported him treated him almost like a god. He had a long way to fall if he couldn't live up to what people thought of him.

OP i think you are on toe something.

ive always believed that his leadership skills are less to be desired. if he has to lead a bunch of people behind his ideas, he's great. in terms of building consensus or common ground which leaders have to do, i think he's poor at that.

i wasnt naive enough the first time to think he was going to drastically change the world but i did expect a bit more leadership out of him which hes come up short on. hes still getting my vote but i expect a lot of coasting in the second term especially if he doesnt have majority dems in congress

He's generally lived a professional life where his schedule and by schedule I mean what will be occuring in the next 12 - 24 are fully prepared for him. He's not had to negotiate substantial deals, handle tough meetings or sit before the klieg lights and face a hostile crowd. Anyone that works in Govt. knows that it's pracically an obsession for an office holder or official to "know" what the agenda and scenario will be before stepping foot into anything.

Not that top level execs. don't also enjoy dictating terms, but never as much as a Senator. And banks and shareholders, not to mention regulators can say no to CEO's everyday, no one says no to a Senator, and certainly not the president.

I don't think we were fooled, I think we subconsciously chose to ignore what kind of president he would make versus what kind of candidate he was. Now, as president, he cannot just be the opposition candidate, he must be the president, with all the qualities we expect our president to have.

I don't think he is a bad guy, but I don't think he has every faced serious opposition, except Hilary in the primaries. He has always preached (and I mean that term) in front of audiences that are accepting of him and his ideas. That's what made him a great community organizer. He can rally the faithful with the best of him, he is just not good at convincing the unfaithful to believe.

Bill Clinton, on the other hand, had Romney leaning me convinced with his speech at the Convention. Obama and Romney's debate performace, however, are putting me back on the fence.

That he is not as amazing as the media and some on the far left have made him out to be. He just isn't as great an orator as he was made out to be. He isn't super sharp with facts on the fly. He doesn't let things roll off his back like some politicians do--as is evidenced by his body language and facial expressions.

I really think that it is amazing that he has been pumped up the way he has. Some act like he is smarter, faster and more polished than Bill Clinton and that is just not true. In fact, it is preposterous.

So, I think the problem for Obama at the debate was that he is not good at debates because they require him to think fast, be calm and cool, be forceful without looking nasty, be calm without looking meek and to have a solid knowledge of a ton of facts that he can quickly recall and easily explain. That is a super tall order and I think it is tough for anyone but he either doesn't have those qualities OR he did not prepare enough.

I think that as President, he should have a bit more practice dealing with people who disagree with him and being forceful but tactful. He didn't seem to. I know the presidency isn't a debate every day but surely when he sits down with foreign leaders, he talks about tough issues---or at least I hope he does. He just seemed to be totally out of his league on EVERY front from his ability to respond quickly to his ability to be tactful and cool, to his ability to push back on Romney.

Such a disappointment and not really giving me warm and fuzzies about him. Maybe he is really on an inch deep and a mile wide in his knowledge. Am I alone in feeling this way? Were we fooled?
