Holy cow. Given the lead up and your level of guilt, I thought you had pooped on the floor and given everyone the finger before stomping out of the restaurant!!

Of course it is okay! You were sick. You get a pass. They probably didn't even notice. As they say in California, no worries.

But seriously, next time you go back, apologize and say you realized you accidentally threw out a tray because you were feeling suddenly ill. DO NOT go not the overheating, throwing up passing out part. NOT ONE LITTLE BIT OF IT. Offer to pay, if they say no put $10 in tip jar and move ON with your life.

This is easily the worst thing anyone has ever confessed on DCUM. I think committing hari kari in the middle of the restaurant during tomorrow's lunch hour is the only way for you to save face.

Now, excuse me while I go double park in a fire zone while blocking two handicapped spots so I can run in and drop off my dry cleaning.

I think this ranks pretty low on the horrible scale.

I bet they would prefer to get your business back.

Don't worry about it at all!! They probably serve thousands of people every week so the odds that they recognize you AND saw you throw the tray away are about zero. Sometimes when things happen to us they are amplified in our mind but really no one else notices, life goes on, other $hit happens and all is well.

Hope this helps! I am sorry about your condition, must be hard to fly when they crank the heat up, etc. Maybe dress in layers so you can get cool quickly!!

Today I was eating lunch in a quickie Japanese restaurant. I tend to overheat, and at the same time I thought I was about to throw up, I swallowed soup down the wrong pipe and began choking and also realized I was overheating because the restaurant was unusually warm (I am in SF, we've been having a heatwave, and there's no a/c).

(When I overheat, I throw up and then pass out. As soon as I feel it coming on, I have to immediately get to a cooler place, put cold water on pressure points, etc. It's not just "Nobody likes to sweat and be hot; suck it up." )

So I immediately went to throw my (less than) half-eaten food away and leave the restuarant to get into cooler air. I guess I was weaker than I realized because when I went to throw the food out, the tray slid out of my hand and fell into the garbage with it. I .... left. Nobody noticed, but I still feel AWFUL - it's a place I go 2 or 3 times each week. But I couldn't easily reach the tray to get it out, and I really needed to GET OUT OF THERE before I threw up and passed out, and there was a line of people I'd have had to interrupt to talk to the one guy at the register to explain what happened. How horrible was this?
