This. I work for a Big4 Accounting firm and we extend offers to interns on the last day of their summer internship provided they have performed well. We only extend offers in the fall to campus hires we interview during October and November (it depends on the school in terms of timing). Interns have long since received their offer letters.

I wonder if your son is concealing the fact that he did not get an offer following his internship.

I don't understand the big deal. Just tell her you won't hear anything until after Thanksgiving or until the beginning of December. If you hear earlier, you can all be surprised.

When I worked at a Big 4 firm (started working there in 2001, left in 2005), we interviewed and did offers in the fall. I think first round (on campus) around October, then second round (at the office) around November. I got my own offer right after Thanksgiving. I did not intern with the firm.

I'd really appreciate if I could get an answer on this. I'm not a meddling mother, but whether or not he'll be working (and thus, possibly moving out) does affect us. Plus I'd like to be able to tell the MIL to back off until at least ________ber.

She just has an interest in him and his life. But no, she did not schmooze with anyone - he got the internship all on his own, when the firm did a job fair thing at his college.

That said, like pp, it depends whether or not ihe interviewed. What does 'applied' mean?

First, as others have said, give him some space. Tell your MIL to let her grandson grow up.

If I read this correctly, he interned with them this summer - so he's just been away from the internship for about a month.

Did he apply AND interview? Or just apply? If he interviewed, when was that?

Is he graduating in December or May?

My husband is a CPA. They typically do a lot of hiring in the October/November/December time frame. CPA firms wantt to have their staff set up prior to January because of busy season.

Please let that child live his life.

My college senior applied to the Big Accounting Firm he interned at this summer, and my MIL keeps calling literally every day but Sundays to ask if the mail came and if an offer letter was in it. Firstly when do those letters go out, so I can tell her "We won't hear anything until November" and secondly, are paper letters sent or emails, or both? Thx.
