What's the longest it has taken someone to get an offer from DOJ from the time the applied for the position?

I don't normally deal with the hiring process but I think HR scores all the applicants and the office with the vacancy is only allowed to interview the top scorers. Assuming they interview the top 3 and want to hire the 3rd highest scorer over #'s 1 and 2, they would need to write up a justification for doing so.

I know our office has occasionally gotten stuck hiring someone they didn't particularly want because the person at the top of the list had a Veteran's preference (even though their other qualifications were less than stellar) but I don't understand all the ins and outs of how this happens.

Yeah I think I'll tell him to do that! He called them three or four weeks ago and they said that they are still making their final decision. I guess government just moves slower that I am used to I wouldn't be this anxious if it weren't for our life situation but I guess we'll just have to be patient!

My agency usually goes from posting to BIS in 2 months. However, that long after interview - probably you should call HR

Lesson learned: always ask for business cards in the interview.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I feel a little better now. Thanks for the tip - Will ask him to see if he knows their names. We're just really anxious because we've been living in separate states for over two years now and I'm getting really sick of the commuting back and forth!

Oh yikes, it took me over two months to get my offer. Does he know the names of the people he interviewed with? If it is a trial section he can probably find their emails by searching CM/ECF/Pacer.

Totally depends on too many factors. The division, time of year, etc.

This is something that can really vary by component and even by position. When a vacancy is considered high priority things can move faster but in general, the Federal hiring process is extremely slow. Two months for a call-back certainly isn't unheard of.

Any idea how long it typically takes to get a call back from the DOJ? My husband had his second round interview for an attorney position with the DOJ two months ago. The interview went really well but he still hasn't heard back. They didn't give him their business cards so he has no way of contacting them. It took them 5 weeks to call him after his first interview.
