Good age= when they understand how painful it will be yet choose to have it done anyway.

This is a fat load of garbage.

My Dad was a Family Practitioner, and saw many babies in his practice. He NEVER pierced a baby's ears. Do they really teach that in med school?

And come on. You know that most babies are not having their ears pierced at a doctors office. They are all getting it done at Claire's in the mall. Beautiful, culturally signifcant, place that it is.

From what I can tell it will confirm, or make people wonder if, you are poor or Hispanic.

Love little girls with pierced ears. My family gets the babies ears pierced right away, when they are infants. For one, they are less likely to touch and mess with it, secondly, they don't sleep on the ear.

No, it's really not.

Not even close.

Circumcision isn't done for aesthetic reasons in the first place. It doesn't come remotely close to piercing ears.

The only possible benefit I can think of is that it makes it less likely that people will mistake your infant daughter for a boy. Because, you know, that's really damaging to a developing psyche.

At the same age you get them their first tattoo. So about 9 months.

I agree.

OP, you asked when is a good age to take them. IMO, a good age is when they are old enough to ask on their own to have it done.

In my culture all the girls get their ears pierced very early. But I am wondering how necessary it is- is there a reason for doing it when they are babies ? Does it hurt less or get infected less etc? What is a good age to take them? Fwiw, I'm not due with my daughter for another three weeks but am curious because mother in law already asked me when / where we are getting it done.
