I tend to avoid boots in the office, but I work in a fairly conservative environment.

I personally would only wear Frye boots to casual Fridays here at my office. OP here, btw. I managed to find a pair of black suede knee high boots with an almond toe and elasticized shaft that I wear to work with skirts and dresses. I find the suede softens things, and isn't as attention getting as grain, pebbled, or patent leather would be. I think it helps that the boots also have a lowish chunkier heel. Nothing makes me cringe more than ill-fitted knee boots in the office with stiletto heels. It just doesn't look right to me.

But can you wear the Frye boots with a skirt to work (professional environment)?

Having a hell of a time finding a black boot to wear with a skirt to work and thinking that it must be my sense of what works and not the lack of something in the store.

i've always thought of over the knee boots are being a bit too hoochie. but that's just me.

As PP said, they are definitely not timeless. You can wear them and not look ridiculous, but to me they look like you are trying to hard.

Not age appropriate. I would suggest just getting a pair of regular Fryes in a classic style. They will last you forever and you won't have to worry about them going out of style.

Either Vogue or Bazaar just highlighted them as "over." Personally, I don't abide by these firm and fast rules that are made to get you to shop. Buy items that flatter you.

If you buy this style, I'd suggest that they will work for you for this year and probably not next so I'd watch the price knowing their life is limited.

i'm considering getting these: http://www.zappos.com/frye-shirley-over-the-knee-riding and am wondering what you would think if you saw a 30-year old mother wearing them with skinny jeans or leggings and an oversized sweater? trying too hard? cute but comortable? i'm tall, so the boots would actually hit just at the top of the knee cap. also taking styling suggestions! i just want a pair of easy boots that go with everything, are flattering, and can make an otherwise boring outfit look cuter. not trying to look like a 22 year old!
