I think you may be my long lost twin.

My husband and I both dislike it - I find it very stressful I think because I'm an introvert who fakes extroverted ness all day - at home I'm quiet putter around and enjoy our life -

Where were all of you guys when I posted a thread a few weeks ago about not wanting/feeling able to handle my MIL coming to stay with us for *three weeks* and I got called every nasty name in the book? So glad to see this thread to remind myself that I am not alone in this sentiment!

You received supportive posts, too! Go back and look.

I like having people stay with us. Or, I should say, I haven't had to host people that I don't enjoy having as house guests. They're always family or close friends whose company I enjoy. I like having a house full of people and warmth and activity for a few days. Last summer we had a weekend when we had 6 people over and we had a blast. Maybe it's because we're a small family - only one child.

This is your H's job, not your guest's job.

He does it too, but my mom gives us a break once in a while. You gotta love moms!

I HATE it. I enjoyed house guests when I was single and encouraged friends and family to come stay with me. I treated them like royalty when they visited. It was OK married but pre-kids, but not as fun. Now with kids-NIGHTMARE. They hate it so much it makes me miserable. I am a lousy hostess because I have nothing left to give. I am always burnt out before they leave. Hate it!

I hate it and refuse to do it. I make exceptions if our house has power and relatives' houses do not. And it is much less stressful when people stay in a hotel, and it's probably less stressful for them too!

Is it having them in your home or feeling committed to doing things with them? Would you still be stressed out if they stayed at a hotel?

Am I the only one who HATES having houseguests? I don't care if it is my parents, his parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, best friends... it is just SO STRESSFUL. And we have them three out of the next four weekends. I'm dreading it.
