I'm not sure I consider myself to be conservative, but I know that most of DCUM would consider me conservative.

I read the message threads through recent topics and post in political periodically.

However I'm turned off by a lot of the name calling and stupid stuff people put in the political threads (ie. smell, mittens, etc).

I'm mainly libertarian, not conservative, but I vote Republican most...not all...but most of the time. I'll be voting for Romney. I think that an extreme reduction in government regulation would be a terrific thing for the country.

I'm pro-life. I believe that the baby in utero is a human being and should be treated like a human being. I'm pro-birth control...I think it should be encouraged as a way to prevent unwanted pregnancies and abortions. But I'm opposed to forcing people who are opposed to birth control to have to pay for it for others.

I'm pro-gay marriage for as long as the government is doing marriages. I actually think that the government should stop being involved in marriage all together. But as long as they are doing so, I think that all people, straight or gay, should have the same rights to that government process.

I chime in periodically to shut down liberal LOON nonsense. I'm loved on here.

I'm a fiscal conservative and have decided I have no party. When I get around to it I'll leave the dems and register independent. From time to time I'll engage here when I get particularly strident about our horrible debts, but I find the degree of financial literacy on this board approximates that of Congress so I usually give up...until the next time.

the level of discourse usually degrades to blaming some prez or another and since I've never believed in the "great man" theory of history, I tire quickly. And, of course, there's no thread longer than 5 messages sans input from one of the pro-choice'rs (irrespective of topic.)

I'm really more interested in solutions than tracing blame, of which there's plenty to go around. Finally, I find a well-reasoned moderate to conservative argument is read without much response.

I guess this forum is much like a cable shout fest--entertaining I suppose but not terribly useful.

If balance requires that roughly half of posters agree with any given idea, then the concept of balance is utterly meaningless.

I don't think that ideas can be weighed by the pound. And balance does not mean we should pretend that both sides of any topic have equal merit.

So people with real ideas should not care how many jackasses disagree with them. One idea can overcome 100 posts by being superior. If anyone feels their ideas aren't landing with this crowd, put some effort into backing them up with supporting evidence and a persuasive argument.

What kind of balance are you looking for? If you don't think there are enough conservative posts, post more. As for respect, I think you'll find that respectful posts are met with respectful responses.

I'm the OP and I think that's just as immature as people who say "Mittens" so you won't hear that from me.

Do you mean a true "conservative"?

Or the radical fringe right wing freakazoid American Taliban fruitcakes that have co-opted that label and pissed all over the fundamental tenets underlying American society and the Constitution?

BIG difference. I am the former and am disgusted by the latter.

One idea is worth fifty bad ones. Who cares how many conservatives there are. If you are right, show it and nobody can shut you down. It's not that hard to shut this whole forum up if you really have a strong case.

18:18, balanced? This is the political discussion thread. If you want balanced, go to Fox News.

Another post suggests that conservative viewpoints choose to come here (on a board in "a very liberal part of the state") so we have to take what is dished out and not expect any balance or respect. I am wondering why, in that case, this is not just called the Democrat Board instead of Political Discussion. And it got me wondering how many conservatives actually bother coming to this board.

If you are here, do you lurk?
Do you post, knowing you are just going to get smacked down by The Almighty Liberals here?

And if my fellow conservatives just steer away from this One-Sided Place, clearly they wouldn't even see this to be able to comment on it. =)

But for the rest of you, please use this thread to speak up and show us you're here and whether you normally bother voicing your opinion.
