7pm. Gives us a chance to grab a drink after work, but not be home too late for the sitter.

Not sure about driving from outside the beltway though. If we were doing a weeknight, we wouldn't go home first.

Any time between 7 and 8 pm is pretty standard. Then again, if you like going early, do it. You'll have a shorter wait time or easier time making reservations. Anything before 6:30 at a more upscale restaurant will probably mean you're there with a lot of young families. Not what I'm looking for when I get a chance to go out and leave my kids at home.

I like to do 8pm, and grab cocktails somewhere else first.

6:30/7. Why would it be awkward for a sitter?

Taking DH out to his 35th birthday dinner downtown. We are so used to eating early, getting kids in bed, then relaxing.
If you are making a reservation for dinner out, what time do you make it for?
(I don't want to feel like i'm 70yo, but also don't want to be awkward for the sitter.)

If you drive in from outside the beltway, when do you usually make your restaurant reservations for?
