I guess I don't see the point except for a special occasion, because I work out five days a week and no blowout I've ever had survives a workout and the shower.

I do it once a week, max. My hair is so gigantically thick that a blowout will last for 4 days. And it's so humongous that it would take me 2 hours to do it myself (and it wouldn't turn out nearly as well as when someone else does it!).

It really just takes practice. I started straightening my hair in college using a curling iron (this was before flat-irons were as common as they are now), then a summer roommate showed me how she dried hers straight with a round brush, and I've just been doing it that way ever since! I have a 3" curling iron for when I want some body and a flatiron for when I want it stick straight. Just keep practicing!! Ask your stylist to talk you through it the next time you get your hair done!

Good luck finding a cheaper option--even Bubbles charges me $40 now. Granted, my hair is long, but still. According to that link, they open October 19 (and are taking appointments now, assumably the demand is that great).
