You can be a member even if you're not military. It just costs more. The fees are on a sliding scale. The rates vary for the military folks quite a bit, then there is another rate for certain government employees (IC/national security) and finally the highest rate is for private sector people.

How can you join if you're not military?

We belong there. It's a great club. For us, it's a nice place to spend time as a family. It's not at all pretentious. For country clubs, I think it's the best deal. You get 54 holes of golf (Fairfax and Arlington locations) for much less than the price of the other clubs. It's very down to earth, but then again, we're government types so it makes sense we'd feel comfortable there.

If you have to ask...

You need to be nominated for membership by a current member in good standing. You can't just call and expect to join.

Please just call the club and ask about the cost of joining.

I realize how expensive it is. However, the people I know doing this are BigLaw partners. They are blowing all of their money on private schools, big houses, vacations and country clubs and not even attempting to save up. We are scraping by and not spending on any of those things so we can save for college. I guess maybe the old saying "you have to spend money to make money (or in this case, get a free ride) makes sense. Because I didn't blow my money on a country club thus resulting in a full golf scholarship, I am penalized. Sheesh.

Hi - this is an old thread but I have the same question. Husband is colonel in the army reserves. What would cost (one time and monthly) be for us? And what does one do at country clubs? For military members it depends on rank.

We're interested in pool, fitness, social, and maybe tennis. DH and I don't play golf. We aren't military, but my husband used to be an SES government empoyee before returning to the private sector. Thanks so much!
