Class composition info is available on the school websites for you to evaluate according to your own measure of diversity. Churchill is great. Chesterbrook probably too. Longfellow is the AAP middle school, so if your DC could be in Longfellow no matter where they went to elementary school. Langley is simply a better high school, overall (look at college admission stats) - but McLean ranks higher on many charts, who knows why.

I would appreciate information on anything you have. I will have a child in elementary as well as middle. Thanks again.

Are you just talking about the two elementary schools, or also about the middle and high schools in the Langley and McLean pyramids?

You really should look further out "academically" than k-1st grade. But truly, look at their websites, get a flavor for the administration, how they communicate and build community, PTA support, field trips, etc.

I don't know that any FCPS differentiates too much in the earliest grades. What exactly is your concern, OP?

K and 1st teachers in all schools evaluate their students and often they will break them into different reading groups and different math groups. But all children will get the same basic curriculum.

OP here. Given the two pyramids, can I get information on either one of them from parents who have kids in those schools. I do understand the pyramids, just want to know how either or both schools are academically. Any input on the middle and high schools would be helpful as well. Most interested in Kindergarten and 1st grade academics please. How do they differentiate that early? Thanks in advance.

Churchill is Cooper/Langley and Chesterbrook is Longfellow/McLean.

Should also say "very different" in McLean is really not all that different.

2 different pyramids means they feed into different middle and high schools.

I am not usually on this forum.....but 2 different pyramids? Please explain. I don't even know which one you are considering on top. I often hear of these two mentioned in the same context.

Those schools are in 2 different pyramids. You may want to look further out than kindergarten to compare middle and high school experiences. Could be very different long-term.

Which school is more academic? What are kids in K doing? What kind of differentiation happens as early as K? Thanks in advance.
