Just to encourage you - my son measured small throughout the pregnancy. As the pregnancy progressed, I was sent for ultrasound after ultrasound. He was 5.5 lbs at birth. Now he is 4 and in the 10th percentile for height and weight. But he is perfectly healthy, just small.

Me too. Sorry hopefully she has abetter outcome.

I measured small all the way up email last month. I ended up having an 8.5 lb baby.

I'm experiencing this now. Did ivf so know dates but measure 4 days small at 7 week u/s

Both my sonograms that early had me measuring small because my cycles are long/I ovulate late. First was at 8 weeks but measured 6 days behind. (They pushed due date 8 days back, and he was born 3 days after that.) With my second, I was supposed to be 9 weeks, and they said I was 6 weeks 2 days, so 12 days small/behind. That baby was born 6 days later than that adjusted due date.

I had a sono at 8 weeks. Strong hearbeat (169) but baby measuring small (7 weeks). Sonographer said it was nothing worry about, I prob just ovulated later than I thought (I didn't buy that, but...). I'm now 14 weeks and everything looks great. The baby even caught up a little bit!

I had a sonogram at 8 weeks where we saw a strong heartbeat, but fetus was measuring small. My OB had me come back in a week later and there was no heartbeat. I hope that this is not the case for your SIL, wishing her the best.

i wonder if she is just 'dating' her pregnancy wrong? Is it possible she tracked ovulation off by the 5 days?

The statistics probably are in her favor (http://miscarriage.about.com/od/pregnancyafterloss/f/oddsheartbeat.htm), even with the one loss already, but you can never tell how an individual case will go.

Does she have irregular periods or does she know for sure when she ovulated?

I measured 2 weeks behind at my 9 week appointment. I thought that was a huge difference and - having had two early losses before - freaked out, but the doctor was not concerned. We had our 12 week (so 14 weeks LMP) appointment this past week and all is well. I think my cycle was still recovering from the previous miscarriage and that's why the dates were off.

Agree with PP about seeing if she can get another u/s before 12 weeks to avoid the wait and stress. Best of luck to you guys.

Support her through this, it really could go either way. For me I had a heartbeat but small size (at 7 weeks) and 2 weeks later no beat, for my friend she went back in 2 weeks and everything was on track.

How small? I saw a hb at 7 weeks and was measuring 5 days behind. Heart stopped beating a couple days after that

it is for my SIL and right now she is devestated. She miscarried once before when she had this same situation.
