We live in the Wood Acres district and while my kids didn't go to public elementary so I can't comment specifically on the elementary school I can say that we love the high school. And the kids who came through Wood Acres seem like smart, nice, well adjusted kids (I suppose the same is true for the other feeder elementaries too). The parents in our neighborhood who do send their kids to WA seem to be very happy with it.

Yes, the entire 5th grade is in trailers and two third grade classes are in trailers. All new within a year or so. It does not make ANY difference... the 5th graders like having their own area, and the 3rd graders who are outside (my daughter being one of them) thinks its cool because her teacher can adjust the temperature! It is a non-issue. The school is slated for an addition in 2016. During this construction the kids will NOT be moved to another location.

Find a not-new-construction school that doesn't have them these days!

Aren't there a lot of trailors in the back of the school?

We have two kids at Wood Acres. We've been there since our oldest was in first and is now in 5th. It is a fantastic public school. It is large, but has beautiful facilities. Great principal, and fantastic guidance counselor who was recently written up in Bethesda magazine. The bullying comment is untrue. The school is ON IT. There is an entire values program that is a preventative bullying program. There are a lot of fantastic teachers, but also some duds. This is as with any public or private schools. There is a high level of parental involvement and an extremely active PTA that welcomes working parents and nonworking parents alike (finds opportunities for any amount of time parents can give, but doesn't have status issues if you are SAHM mom versus working mom). We are very happy with the school.

Agree, we live in wood acres but DS isn't elementary age yet. There are a lot of moms who either stay at home or have a schedule that allows them to be involved with their children during the day. Anecdotally I have heard people are generally happy with the school. Only concern some people have is the class sizes, but that seems to vary from year to year. We love the neighborhood.

We just started there this year The principal seems to be really engaged and "with it". Parent population is also very present. I see moms and dads at drop off and pick up, hardly any, if any, nannies which is interesting because it is a fairly affluent area but there seem to be a ton of stay at home moms/dads.

Have not heard of the bullying issue but I think bullying exists everywhere you go.

You could not choose a better neighborhood or school. The parents are the movers and shakers of government and private industry. The school is great.

That "bullying" comment is ridiculous. Now days if one kid looks at another kid sideways because of the color of his shirt its automatically a "bullying problem".

It is a very large school and I've heard it has a bullying problem.
