I agree, my friend named her child Zara and everyone hears Sara. She has to introduce her self as Sara with a Z.

Not the OP, but yikes, I would have thought people would be more cognizant at least of the name Zara, but apparently not.

Wikipedia says that Zadie Smith was born "Sadie" and changed her name in her teens. Just a bit of trivia.

I like the name but you (and eventually your daughter) will be doing a lot of correcting because people will hear "Sadie." It's not that big a deal IMO if you love the name, but I'd just be sure you really love it.

I love Zadie but probably because Zadie Smith is one of my favorite authors.

Sadie, however, is only cute for a dog.

Did you hear Zadie on NPR yesterday? Is that what made you think of the name??

It means grandfather in Yiddish. Some people still call their grandfather's this... Might be a little weird.

Zadie is a great name! I have a 2 year old cousin with the name and it is adorable. I think it's cute for a little girl, but will age well with her as she grows up to be a woman.

I think it's great too that it has sentimental value for you. Go for it! Don't listen to the nay sayers on here.

Yes. Please go with Sadie. Very cute.

Zadie? Ugh. Sounds like you would also use the word "twee" in everyday conversation.

I think of the author Zadie Smith. I would go with Sadie instead.

Why not use Sadie?

Absolutely not. It's not even a good name for a dog--blech.

Honest reaction - girl or dog name?

Thinking about girl names just for fun and this was my great grandma's name. Funny thing is that I kind of like it even though all of my other favorites are more classic old lady names (like Helen, Caroline, Sylvia, etc.).

I think it's definitely a good dog name , but can you see it on a girl or absolutely no?
