I have a nook and an iPad and actually like my nook a little more for reading. It's also small enough that I can really take it anywhere.

I have a first generation Nook and don't use it very often. I find I use the kindle app only iPad more. Kindle books are a bit cheaper for the most part. If you just use an app, you can blow the money on books instead.

I have a 16gb Nook Tablet and gave DH a Nook Color for Christmas last year and we love them. I took one look at the B&N app store and rooted (unlocked the android capabilities for the device) both and havent regretted it. I read, web surf and watch vids on mine and dl'd a bunch of apps for my sn dc at his ST's suggestion.

Rooting was pretty easy, but if youre afraid to do it yourself you can buy a rooted sdcard from ebay for around 15 bucks. All you do is pop it in, turn your nook on, and viola you have a nice lil android tablet.

My DH got me a Kindle Fire and I love it. I love that I can check out kindle books from the public library. I'm not sure if nook books are also available or not. . . Also love that amazon often has deals on some of their kindle books.

I don't have an iPad so I especially like the Kindle Fire because it's small (fits in my purse) but I can check my e-mail on it, watch netflix, etc.

I did a ton of research and ended up opting for the nook over the kindle for my husband. He absolutely loves it. Also, since you have a gift card to Barnes and Noble, I'd go with the nook.

My mom has a nook and loves it, except apparently there is a common problem with the charger. The cable apparently dies quickly/ frequently and you can't buy just the cable, you have to get a whole new charging unit with the adapter. I don't know if others' here have had that experience. As far as e-readers though, my husband loves his Kindle (not that your gift card helps with that).

I have nook color. It comes with 8g of memory, but only 1g is free for other downloads. You will not be able to buy amazon e-books.
B&n offers some foreign language books, but not a whole lot.
I have not been able to find foreign magazines.

Having said that, I really use mine a lot.

If you are getting one, I would research which one can read e-text books. Currently the nook does not.

I got a leather cover and the anti-glare screen online from amazon. Do not buy those from b&n

I have a nook tablet. I use it mainly for internet and Netflix. I find that boss are more expensive on nook than buying them used on Amazon. I rarely pay more than $2-3 for books so for me anelectronic reader is just another gadget. That said I do love getting magazine subscriptions via my nook and it was nice to have a couple of travel guides on a recent trip I took, but for everyday reading...nah.

It's hard to say because it's so personal, but I have the regular little nook just for reading, as well as an Ipad. And as someone who reads for HOURS at a time, I love the nook a lot because it's easy on my eyes. And if you don't use it much, it stays charged for a month. I can read a week without needing to charge it. And I like the ability to highlight passages, put bookmarks, and instantly pull them all back up. I have always marked up books, and now I can do that electronically.

Since my life is busy, I read where I can. Lunch break at work. At the park while my son is playing. In a matinee movie waiting for the movie to begin. And so on. An e-reader, whatever brand, is PERFECT for this.

If you like Amazon I would get the new Kindle with the light. If you have the prime service you can watch videos on your Ipad for free, and check out some books for free. If you get most of your books from B&N, then I'm sure the Nook would be equally nice. Get the one with the nightlight option.

14:56 here. Wanted to add one more thing. You can get the nook app on your ipad, which will make your nook library accessible on that device as well. You might want to read your e-magazines on your ipad while at home and take advantage of the larger screen and better graphics.

Totally worth it! The newer nook simple touch is very light and easy to read in bright light. If you plan to read magazines on it, you might want to consider getting the nook color, which has great color and clarity. However, it's heavier than the simple touch, and while bigger, is not as big as the ipad, so you'll have to zoom and scroll a lot, etc. I have a nook color and I bought my husband a nook simiple touch. It's nice to be able to carry multiple books at once. It's also nice to be able to search for words when looking back and re-reading certain parts. You should do it, but first check and make sure the gift card also covers nook products. I know sometimes they have coupons and discounts, but they exclude nook products and nook books.

I received a $100 gift card to Barnes & Nobles. Normally I would just buy some books but then I was thinking maybe I should get a Nook.

We already have an iPad so I wouldn't get the fancy Nook, just the one for reading. I would never read on the iPad b/c it seems too big and unwieldy.

I am an avid reader, at least a book a week and I also like to read newspapers and magazines. I really love the feel of a book in my hands, but the other day I was walking to meet a friend and I wanted to take my book with me b/c my friend is always late and the book I am reading is a huge hardcover and I thought how great it would be to slip a Kindle in my bag. Also I came back from a week'd vacation and yes I brought a grocery bag of books with me!

Can anyone tell me if they think it is worth it or is this just another silly gadget I will have to remember to charge at night?
