I was skeptical about your post at first.
But to be honest, Obama should go for it, if for no other reason than because Republicans won't be able to fight him at that time. If they can't beat a Democrat in an economy like this, they are permanently screwed unless they find a way to win back Hispanics and other recent immigrant populations. The party knows it, and a loss now should force them to make peace with immigrants. They need to stop portraying them as freeloaders and recognize that immigrants are risk takers who are responsible for our country's success. They are young workers who support our retirees and create demand for our stagnant post-bubble housing market. They are the students who want the science and engineering degrees that our kids don't feel like pursuing. They are the workers doing the jobs that US citizens don't seem to want. In short, they are both a historical and contemporary boost to America.
