There is no such thing in DC. I know that Sidwell, for example, does not care where a 4 or 5 year old has come from. They look at other factors instead. Although many parents think that there are "feeder" preschools, it's just not true, at least at Sidwell.

My child is in public kindergarten this year but the 2 kids I do know who were admitted to privates this year (one to Maret and one to Beauvoir) went to no-name, obscure preschools.

I'm sure that NCRC may give an edge but so does the complete opposite (at least in some cases). Bottom line--there is no magic formula.

Years ago, when my oldest had just entered preschool, a neighbor told me with great assurance that the school her children attended was a feeder to Sidwell. We had just moved here --- I didn't know what Sidwell was or even what a feeder was, but the neighbor explained very patiently that Sidwell admissions were slam-dunk for applicants from her kids' school. She knew this because an educational consultant formerly associated with Sidwell had told her so.

Fast-forward several years -- neighbor's kids are at Landon and Maret; mine, having gone to public school for ES, are at Sidwell. Now, all three of these schools are great in different ways -- and all 3 also have their weak points -- but, that said, I don't think the feeder theory worked all that well.

that's not synonymous with "feeder preschool" in the New York sense of the concept, though. Where the AD brokers the kids and limits the number of kids going to any one school. And on the other end, the ADs of the "ongoing" schools set aside slots for a particular number of kids from Preschool X -- but no more.

Yes, DC works this way too. Heads of Pre-Schools build a rep ( or not) with certain privates and when these pre- school heads pass on that such and such a family, gave generously of its times ( and $$$) , and that their dear snow flake added that" special something" to the class, that is all it takes, folks...72% WIPPSI be damned.

That's the basic intel, but FYI, Maret starts at KDG, not pre-k so keep that in mind when applying.

It's possible the DC style feeders mentioned above, plus some others, serve to accept the children of majority of the parents in this area who have the means, and currently are planning on, their snowflakes attending a NW DC private. This is in large part what drives the exmissions "success" of these schools. It's self proving, winners in, winners out. Oh well.

There is NO preschool feeder system in DC. Children get into these schools from all preschools.
