I was also going to suggest Caneel Bay. Peter Island is nice too.
We weren't that impressed with Nevis. The Four Seasons was nice, but overall, there wasn't much to do or see in Nevis and the beaches weren't great. My sister recently stayed at the Ritz in St. Thomas and said it was very under-whelming and there were kids everywhere- not what you'd want for an anniversary trip.

Check out the Mayakoba development in Mexico - www.mayakoba.com We stayed at the Fairmont and the Banyan Tree - both were very nice, but the Banyan Tree was out of this world and very romantic. We ate at the Rosewood one night, which also looked amazing.
Mayakoba is one hour south of Cancun airport and the hotels will arrange for a car service for you -- all have Escalades and Mercedes for guests. Not once was I ever concerned about any safety issues since all the hotels are in a secluded, gated community. We connected through Atlanta on Delta, but I think there are more nonstop, direct flights from DC to Cancun now.
These resorts are 15-20 minutes north of Playa del Carmen. My husband and I had every intention to go into town one day to do some exploring and eat at some local restaurants ... but the pools and beaches and food were so wonderful at the hotels that we never did it
Are you dead set on a beach vacation? If not, check out the Four Seasons Santa Barbara. UNBELIEVABLE! If I had Oprah's money, I'd live out there too!

I loved the St Regis in Puerto Rico, which we went to recently. Far away from San Juan, about five miles of gorgeous beaches.
We are going to Scrub Island, a new Marriott property which is apparently the whole island, in the BVIs in October -- I have heard good things.
Barbados is really nice.

Subject: Splurge beach trip for anniversary in December?
We are looking to go away for a few days during the week during December to celebrate our anniversary (no kids). We'd be up for spending up to 500 or so a night. We have been to Cap Juluca and Little Dix Bay. Any other good ideas? Requirements are beautiful beach with good service, good food a plus, and hopefully not too hard to get to (2 flights)
