our NW elementary school offers childcare on site for $5 per kid, $10 max per family. we used last year for oldest child, kept the toddler with us. we will use for both kids this year.

Did you call the school? One of our kid's charters explicitly states no kids, while the other provides on-site babysitting.

ditto. our capitol hill DCPS has onsite care (they take the kids to the playground and watch them). i hate that it starts at 6:00, though, b/c we'll have very little (if any) time to feed the DC.

Do what you can to find a sitter for your kids. Back to School Nights are about the parents getting information.

Generally, it seems better to leave the kids with a sitter. Still, I think some schools recognize that that's not always practical, so they welcome kids.

I'd say that it's best to check and see what the practice is at your school. We had the same question when we first started at our DCPS school, so we asked around. So glad we did, since a few people were unclear, and the school ultimately clarified that the expectation was parents only.

At Barnard, last year, swarming with kids and basically impossible to hear anything the principal or the teachers were saying.
