My DH had a laundry business in college. He would pick up the loads, wash, dry and fold and return to his clients. He did the laundry at a local laundromat and sometimes at my house when the laundromat was closed (late nights).

He charged a few dollars per pound. He loved it becaue he could study while loads were going and he never had to ask his parents for spending money while he was a student (something that was v important to him). His business paid for all of our dates and his walking around money.

I have someone who comes to my house 1xweek to do laundry and ironing. She puts kids stuff away, ours on our bed in piles. We have a lot of ironing. I pay her $18/hour and its usually takes her about 4 hours. I do still wash a few loads a week and leave them for her to sort, fold and iron if necessary. I love having her.

Yes, I had thought to go to people's homes. No risk of losing or mixing up people's things that way. Also, no utility or supplies cost to you.

Though I did think it would feel a little weird to be sitting around in someone's house reading while that first load is cycling.

Anyway, I hope it can work out for you and be a satisfy not-too-taxing way to bring in a little money. Like I said, I enjoy laundry. It's about the only chore I do regularly and well!

Laundromat is a good idea so no wear and tear on your home machines. And the price/load at the laundromat is set so no worrying about your utilities. And you could do multiple loads at the same time, saving you time. Maybe you could purchase gigantic bottles of detergent from Costco.

Have never seen one frame of the Simpsons. Was playing around with utility calculators. Might be better to take all of it to a laundrymat.

Did you see the Simpsons episode where Marge earned some extra money by doing this in her basement? Anyway, your electric and water bills will also increase. Would you need a business license? Just throwing ideas out there.

I would pay someone to come to my home and do laundry. I'm looking for someone to do all bed linens, towels and kids clothes. That's about 3 to 4 loads of laundry. I'd pay $20 per load. If you put an ad on DCUM, be sure to let us know. I'm in VA.

NW DC mom here. I am severely underemployed. I am doing petsitting but looking for other ideas. The thread with the laundry service idea was interesting.

What would you pay for this kind of service per load?

I wonder about my own utilities skyrocketing and the net not being worth it.
