I love Shock Top Orange. Dogfish Alehouse beers are good to ....60 minute IPA, raison d'ĂȘtre , Indian pale ale wtc.

Caldera and Lagunitas both make good stuff.
If you like fruity beer, you could check out Dogfish Head Festina Pesch or Aprihop (fruity, but clean and refreshing) or a lambic style beer.

Loose Cannon and Lagunitas Lil Sumpin Supmin. Love DC brau, too. Many love Blue Moon (orange not required) and Fat Tire.

Confused about bringing oranges?
Blue Moon is traditionally served with an orange slice (just like Corona with a lemon, etc).

If you're near Alexandria you could swing by the Port City brewery and get growlers of their beer on the way to the party. You can buy their beer in 6 packs in stores too.

DC Brau is a good idea (that's the brewery, the beer would be the Public, or something else).
Dale's Pale Ale is another good option for cans.
Don't buy anything you serve with fruit.

Fat Tire (amber is the usual offering, or somersault is their not bad summer beer
(most stuff by brooklyn brewery and dogfish head is good too but some of the dogfish stuff is a little esoteric and/or hoppy)

DH and I were just talking about beer being a great thing to take to parties, since all of our friends seem to drink tons of beer. However, we are CLUELESS about beer (and honestly most alcoholic beverages*). Is there a good, trendy, standby beer that most would be happy to get? I'd honestly feel lame bringing what I know - which is just the major brands. TIA
*we don't drink due to medication/health issues, so it's not easy to get educated on it, either.
