I thought this would be more about the age girls are starting now? Mine is still too young, but I hear stories that these days it can happen as early as 9 or 10. Is that what others are experiencing?

It was so long ago I can't remember all that clearly but I think it was for me.

DD's arrived 15 minutes before she had to leave for a weekend with friends. Luckily I had some supplies and she seemed very cool about it, but I am really feeling bad I'm not there with her. The family's mom is great and easy to talk to, and DD assured me she'd ask if she needed anything, but still ...

Argh.

Very light: Yes, according to what my DD told me. Her period arrived while she was in the middle of playing a field hockey game. During a time out she let her coach know that she had to run to the ladies room. She used toilet paper was fine, came back in and made her first goal. No bleed through at all.

Poor kid. Poor you, OP. My DDs period was light for about a year. She should be okay if she isn't stressed about it. But I feel for you!

In some ways, this is a great lesson to DD- our periods shouldn't stop us from doing anything. I think its kind of neat that she is combining the adventure of her first period with an adventure away from home. As women, our periods shouldn't slow us down and I guess she is getting to put that into practice right off the starting gate.

Thanks PP. OP here. That's exactly what was going through my head -- I didn't want to teach her that you can't do stuff because you have it. And there was no time to second guess it because they were leaving literally in fifteen minutes.

But I wish I was there with her to navigate everything, plus there will be swimming and she just has pads. The flow was so light at the time that it won't be an issue, and it's a lake anyway so not embarrassing like a pool.

** sigh **

My DD had her first period a few months ago. 3 days total, first two were medium flow. Third day just spotting. I have to remind her to change her pad or tampon. Every once in a while she remembers on her own. Can you text your DD to remind her?

My first was one day only. I remember it really well because it's also the day my parents told us they were breaking up!!

Your DD sounds fine - it's probably a bigger deal for you!

I vividly remember my first period. It happened when I was on a school trip. The chaperones were very kind and provided supplies and support. But somehow I had the idea that it would last exactly 3 days, and abandoned protection at that point. Big mistake.

Never in my life did I have a period that lasted less than 5 days.

My main memory is feeling so frustrated at how irregular it was. I never knew when it was coming, so I was constantly on guard. So, my advice to my younger self would be to wear a panty liner so I wouldn't be so worried all the time!

Mine was light. I was in 6th grade, started in the middle of the school day, went to the nurse for a panty liner and was fine. It won't be unusual for her to skip a month here and there the first year and it will most likely stay light. She'll probably only spot for a day or two this time and carry on with her life.
