It would have been offensive for Obama to turn it down. It's obvious that he was never comfortable with it and he rarely (if ever) talks about it. I would not judge him because of that. It was sort of out of his control.

OP and other undecided, we can help you figure out who to vote for. If you truly take the time to educate yourself, you will come to a decision.

What are the issues that concern you the most? Do you have any particular questions regarding those issues?

Do you typically vote one way or the other? which way do you lean?

What are your favorite news sources?

There were a lot of women who fought long and hard for you to have the right to vote. If you truly do your homework and still can't figure out who to vote for, that's one thing. but if you just say "meh, he's a morman and he accepted a prize he maybe didn't deserve", then I believe that's disrespectful to those women who fought for us.

Let's discuss the candidates! this could be fun!

OP, I understand that you're not crazy about Obama but I think it's important to put the Nobel Peace Prize thing in context. I'm guessing that Obama was completely embarrassed by being awarded the peace prize. Certainly I found it bizarre! But, as I recall, it's voted on by the Norwegian legislature so perhaps he thought turning it down wasn't an option - because it would be a slap in the face of the Norwegian politicians?

But I have wondered whether it would have been politically possible for him to turn it down. Certainly that would have been the appropriate thing to do.

With regard to Romney, I don't agree with him so I wouldn't vote for him but him being Mormon doesn't bother me one whit. I don't think that's a good reason to not vote for someone.

After reading the article, i noticed some dem talking points sprinkled throughout and decided to look up the author.

basically, shes a left leaning lesbian. republicans will dismiss this as a fox news contributor party hack and not some objectionable reporter.

the real interesting thing is to see if fox news is reporting these lies in their broadcasts.

either way, interesting to see fox news even let this get on their site

What does her sexual orientation have to do with anything?

nothing to me. just giving the repubs something to latch on

As a nonbeliever, I can tell you I feel the same way about people who think some invisible thing got a virgin pregnant, and Jesus turned water into wine and cured the sick, and the Pope is infallible. It's all a bit far-fetched when you think about it.

And, while I would poke out my own eyes before I'd vote for him, Romney is no more or less qualified to serve because of his beliefs that any of our faithful Christan presidents.

You should read up on the opposition to "the papist" JFK.

I'm sure many people feel that Catholicism (transubstantation?) seems crazy to them . All, or at least most, religions have aspects that are unbelievable or odd. If you would only vote for someone who is a religion that does not

As I said, I know it's a silly judgement. There are definitely people who would object to voting for a Catholic candidate because Catholicism seems crazy. As I said, it's the widespread absolute devotion to the LDS church that makes me uncomfortable. Joseph Smith, the golden plates with the mysterious language, everyone following Brigham Young to the West, God talking to everyone personally, the super ernest missionaries in matching clothes-it all freaks me out.

Transubstantiation has a long and rich history in the Catholic Church, and up until the Protestant Reformation it was the belief. Mormonism by comparison is a "young" religion, found by looking at some rocks in a bag. It is effing weird. It has just enough science fiction-y ridiculousness to be up there with Scientology in my book, because you know Missouri is the promised land, right?

Wow, I'm a democrat and would not vote for Romney because I disagree with his politics, but your position on his religion seems really mean spirited.

Then so be it. I think Mormonism has a historic devaluation of women as individuals. Modern Mormonism is better but not by much. Mormons are so guided by their faith that I wonder whether they can put those values aside for the needs of the American people as a whole.

I have to agree with OP. I don't hate all Mormons, and I have a few friends who are very nice, sane people who just happen to be Mormon. However, it all just seems crazy to me. It's a bit weird to me that anyone could believe so strongly in a lot of the tenants of the Mormon church, but the strangest part is how intense and bordering on cultish it can appear, especially in Utah. There aren't many casual Mormons. I don't like Romney and I don't agree with most of his views and his Mormonism is just another reason I'm skeptical. I'm not proud of it but it's true.

Holy Sh*t. How is it even possible that FOX published that article? Did somebody hack into their intranet and post it before the top brass caught them????

I don't really know what I'm going to do. I live in a state where my vote does not matter. I don't like Obama and I don't like romney (although for political not personal reasons ). Maybe I'll write someone in? I don't know, I just want November to come and go.

I just won't vote.

I dislike Obama and I think he has done a poor job; though I like Biden, which may be Obama's only saving grace. There are just so many things that make me inherently distrust Obama--he accepted a Nobel Peace Prize for what? Seriously, what did he actually do to deserve it? He is a politician from Illinois not Mother Teresa.

Now Romney/Ryan. Well, that's not happening either. I cannot vote for them. I barely trust Romney because he is a Mormon and must be slightly unhinged to believe those tenants, and now this:

Even Fox cannot swallow Ryan's BS.
