It's worthwhile to remember that the immersion process is a lottery process (not everyone who wants to can get into the program). I'm sure that the non-immersion program has a typical mix of kids with all ability types. Besides, if parents think their kid is likely to get into the AAP center in third grade they may not want to bother with French immersion for 2 years.

It's at Herndon ES as well.

If I were OP, I would not worry. Kent Gardens is a big school. The neighborhoods zoned for Kent Gardens are all nice. A French immersion program is not such a big draw these days that every family with academic aspirations for their kids would pick it.

Why is it useless? It's the only one in the County. Please don't respond if you just think French is a useless language. I'm more interested in finding out if the program is good or not. Thanks.

My worry is that the non-immersion classes are going to be overly heavily populated by kids with behavior or learning issues because other kids would have opted for immersion. I might be completely wrong though so would appreciate first-hand insight. (Please don't let this thread get sidetracked by general discussion about the principal, etc...I know this school sometimes seems to lead to heated debate on this board).

Your question doesn't make sense.

What in the world does not being in immersion have to do with "overly heavily populated by kids with behavior or learning issues b/c other kids would have opted for immersion?"

Most parents that you talk to in the school would be happy to get rid of the stupid French Immersion program. It's useless.
