I am with the PP who does not have any sympathy for illegal immigrants. I am a legal immigrant myself and have now spent more than half of my life in the U.S. The reason I don't have any sympathy for the illegals is that I know there are millions of deserving people out in the world whose lives may be in danger or would at least be greatly improved by immigrating to the U.S., but they have to do it the legal way and often have no luck doing so. Just because someone from South America has easier access to the U.S. (i.e. can make a run accross the border) does not make them any more deserving of U.S. rights and benefits than countless people who are trying to do it the legal way. Hate me if you wish!

Imigration is what made us an exceptional nation. Jeez it's like no one ever visited the statue of liberty before. It doesn't say "give me your rich media moguls who want to increase their ownership of media without running afoul of the law". It doesn't say "well take anyone with powerful lawyers or coo rate sponsorship". It says

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free"

Children of immigrants are often dual citizens.
All I had to do is fill out a form and my baby got my countrys citizenship

Given our history and our (supposed) principles, how could it be otherwise?

PP here "in the U.S." should read "in our country"

The topic is children BORN in the us to illegal immigrants. Since this confers indisputable legal citizenship for them, the above concerns are completely moot.

But you still don't have sympathy because in reality you pick and choose which laws to support.

Because laws protet even criminals who are citizens, and the world is more global.
You have rights when you travel outside your country, and people from other lands have rights here. That is not charity.
Nobody is asking for sympathy from you. For the law to be equal every child would have to be taken away from their parents, not just those that are newborn and healthy, as it is this land is not able to look after the children already in the system, so this will not solve anything

Ok, I will: You are a horrible person. I mean really, deeply flawed, approaching non-human status in your total lack of empathy. You are so far beneath the human value of an illegal immigrant (who did a good thing at personal risk).

You could try informing yourself on the difference between human rights and civil rights. But you're probably irredeemably vile.

You must have misunderstood. Teenagers whostay are in high school and might choose to stay for that reason, even if it means living on your own.
Smaller kids go to foster care when the paarents are sent to detention centres. That is where the law gets murky. If the parents do not speak good enough english or do not know how to fight the system, they can be deported without the kids.
Keeping the family together is a basic human right, and if the home ountry is stable enough to be deported to, then their children should go with the parents.
If it is a small baby and the foster family wants to adopt, they can do so against the parents wishes. Nobody really wants the older kids.
This is a breach of human rights, but nobody cares.

They were born in the U.S. and thus American citizens per the Constitution. I don't think we've starting deporting citizens. It is a thorny issue though. I'm sure small children would rather be with their parents, but I've read several articles about teenage children wanting to stay in the U.S. because they are American and don't recognize their parents home country as their own because they've never lived there and their life is in this country. It's really a horrible dilemma isn't it?

The families must have come to the US for some reason in the first place, and a lot of times that reason is escaping violence or terrible living conditions at home. Hence why the US might decide that the kids are better off here.

I just read an article about the children born in the US to illegals. It stated that although the parents were deported, the children were put in state custody and some put up for adoption because " they have will have a better life in the US, than the country their parents were deported to". REALLY??? I am completely floored by this article. Sounds a bit like what we said to the American natives, or what the Germans said to the Jews. How can we say where a child is better off? So should every child not living in a country we feel is up to our standard be brought here against the parents will because we will give the child a better life? This is very scary! I get the fact that the parents knew they could be deported at anytime back to the country they came from but let them take the children with them. I don't care if they were born here or not, they are not PROPERTY of the US. Let the child make the decision to come back to his or her home country when they are adults. I would bet every dollar I have if you asked the child where he/she wanted to be, it would be with the parents. Children don't give a damn about the "good life". They care about their mother and father.
I would love someone out there to explain to me how this is legal!
