Subject: Costs and time frame for a complete reno row house in dc
Well, we signed the contact at the end of May, now it's still not finished as oppose to said it will be completed approximately August 1st. Most of the major works are done, but it will take at least two more weeks if they are working 5 days a weeks and a least 3 workers a day. Yes, we installed all new drywalls, electric, finished basement, additional bathroom, and doors. So now we are hoping for the best. Good luck

Seems like the same exact thing we just did. It started as a 1st floor/master suite remodel but in the end they gutted everything. We can't quote a cost for you, but allow for AT LEAST 6 months. Maybe closer to 9.

Bay Area resident here. Different location but i think pricing is probably comparable. Our contractor just gave us a $105k bid on a kitchen remodel. Preserving craftsman home detail and opening walls to backyard and to dining room.

Our DC rowhouse is going to be gutted and completely redone. We will move out. Our architect told us at least 9 months, but definitely 6-12 months. Estimated cost is 350k, we are adding an addition to the 2nd floor - demolishing and rebuilding the sun room in the back and making it 2 stories to enlarge the back bedroom, finishing the basement into a family room, den and a full bath - dug out to increase ceiling height. We are going for a modern spare design with radiant heat on all floors and all new systems.

Do you have to have an architect? Try just getting a few good contractors to bid. They can do plans and permits.

I'd say estimate at least $250k. Our neighbors house took a long time- almost a year, but they really did a total overhaul.

PP again. Our real estate agent estimated they spent $150,000 on the renovation. However, they didn't move the bathrooms, stairs, or kitchen, just renovated everything, finished the basement, and added a bathroom there.

We bought a house in DC which had been bought by a developer and completely redone. They bought it in July, and it was on the market in late October. Allow at least 3 months.

I have a few appts with architects to come look at it but it seems that getting then to the house is Luke pulling teeth. Here's the scoop- we have a three bedroom house that needs a complete overhaul- stairs moved, bedrooms moved, kitchen moved, bathrooms added etc. what ballpark can we estimate on something like this? And how long would it take?
