This year with the expansion, all siblings got in to Cap City. It would not surprise me that if with the larger student body, in 2013-14 there are very few non-sibling preS 3 slots (the new starting year). There are also a few additional slot in a couple elementary grades, class size increases in preK 4, K, and 2 or something like that. And new slots for 5th graders. Again, I wouldn't be surprised in future years if most Cap City open slots go to siblings.

Just apply and don't get your hopes up. It took you longer to post this than most of the applications,

YY had 72 slots, and initially ~40 went to Sibs, ~32 to random.

Not all of the sibs ultimately took the slot. Probably about half of those in the schools today were sibs.

I think your math is wrong. The numbers I heard were more like 40 of them only went to sibs, I think it was the largest sib class yet (and it's both a young school and a school with big classes). In any event, next year probably will be tougher because of all the sibs from the jumbo class. In any event, your odds are better if you know someone at the school or you read these boards. The class is always oversubscribed, so it helps to be "in the know" about how best to actually get in.

IT is still a new school. Thus, the chance that there are 40+ founding famlilies (out of the 120ish there were last year) at IT with 3 years olds entering the "draft" are rare. T As the size of school increases, perhaps but I don't see IT having a sibling only lottery for a few years.

Mundo Verde and IT are still so new that I would not anticipate it being an issue for those two.

I understand not wanting to get your hopes up but if you don't apply you will have zero chance. We got a spot at Two Rivers last year with no preference--we were low teens on the WL for PS3. The call came in September. So even if it is hard to get in it still happens for no pref families.

Stokes is not on your list but this year, a card was sent out to notify applicants that there wouldn't be a lottery for PS/PK(can't remember which) since they would be to capacity with siblings.

EL Haynes is not "sibling only" but there often are only a few slots left after siblings enroll. Also, the difficulty for pre-K is that older grade lotteries are done first, and if an older student with a pre-k sibling gets picked, the pre-k sibling gets a slot (I believe). So if there are 10 prek slots at the start of the lottery, there may only be 6 or 7 by the time the pre-k lottery rolls around.

As an aside, EL Haynes has 21 slots for both 3 yos and 4 yos each year (before sibling preference). So you have 2 years to try. (Again, I believe this is the current process - I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm mistaken).

I had heard that some of the top charters are oversubscribed at pre-K to the point of not admitting anyone at all without a sibling already at the school.

Does anyone know if that is the case for any of these schools?
