Seriously. The most MOST racist men I have ever encountered in my adult life have been the ones who had long-term relationships with black women, especially in college, but never married them--and went on to marry the most lily white blonde around. Same goes for the WASP guy who only dates the jewish girls while he's young and then marries Barbie. THE WORST. Same thing when women do this. By all means date and marry whomever you like--but this "I fuck one thing and marry another thing"; it's pathological.

OP the title of your thread is very misleading. The articles aren't asking if Paul Ryan is racist but asking about his policies in relation to black people.

So far as I know (and I know him personally), Paul Ryan is not a racist.

You may say he pursues racist policies, but that's absurd because it suggests that the policy is motivated by a desire to hurt people because of their race. Which I don't think he does. It may be the OUTCOME of some of his economic policies, but it's not the motivation.

Strom Thurmond certainly proves you can have an affair with a black woman, be a father to a black child, and still as a politician advocate racist policy.

What matters is what he says and does. I would worry about posters who pull the "I have black friends" argument. It's like saying Michael Steele and Clarence Thomas prove the GOP is race friendly. C'mon!!!

if OP actually read the links they posted, the would see that even if there are/were rumors of ryan being racist that one of his articles stated the following:

I do think it's disingenuous to act like a conservative Republican having a black girlfriend is somehow not interesting or noteworthy -- of course it is. So, I find a lot of the "so? is this news?" commentary to be a little stupid. Yes, I think it will surprise people who have a caricature of how conservative Republicans are supposed to act. But does it "matter" in the course of the presidential news election? No.

I agree with you in one sense in that if I had to bet on whether or not he did, I would have bet no, so it isn't what I expected. But even though I disagree with the man's policies and politics, I haven't heard any racist statements attributed to him, so I don't have any reason to believe that he is racist, as opposed to just a person with political ideas that I disagree with, so in that sense, it isn't really suprising.

Eh, the fact that he had a black girlfriend has been public knowledge since 2000. I read about it in this old article: www.ryandonmoyer.com. She was a cheerleader at his college or something.
