Agree that it is very sad to keep score. And, there is no normal. Life changes constantly - kids age, you add more kids, you have a huge project at work, your partner loses a job, you have an injury and can't do certain chores, your kids develop new interests and add activities, your kid struggles in a subject that you don't get so you can't help with homework, etc.

Good grief! We get it, and the responses have reflected the many nuances. I think OP's looking for generalities, not specifics. It's interesting, but I seriously doubt she plans on taking any of this to the bank.

Interesting that so many DWs do the bills, DH does the bills and finances.

Grocery shopping: 70/30 DH
Bills: 100% DW
Cleaning:80/10/10 most by a cleaning service
Outside: 80/20 most by HOA, rest by DW
Bathing kids & bedtime reading: 70/30 DH
Playing w/kids/sports/school activities: 100 DW
Snow shoveling car/walk: 95% DW because I love the exercise.

Don't know if this is good or bad, but it works well for us.

We do:

Cooking: 70/30 DW
Dishes (no dishwasher): 60/40 DW
Laundry: 50/50
Yardwork: outsource mowing; remainder, including vegetable garden, is 99% DW
Trash: 99% DH
House cleaning: 50/50
Grocery shopping: 50/50
Other shopping (soap, etc): 80/20 DH
Pay bills: 80/20 DH
Pet care: 80/20 DW

No kids yet, we both work full time with similar hours, but my commute is shorter so DH spends more time out of the house on weekdays.

Cooking 60/40 - DW
Kitchen cleanup 60/40 - DH (whoever cooks, the other cleans)
Pay bills - 50/50
House cleaning - 70/30 - DW (only because I deep clean more and DH would be satisfied with vacuuming and washing surfaces with cleaner)
Laundry - 50/50
Grocery shopping - we do it together
Planning get togethers, RSVPing, buying gifts, writing cards - 90/10 - DW
Travel planning - 50/50 DH usually does the hotel/flight lookups and I typically do the restaurant/activity planning

I don't really keep tabs but this is what I'm guessing. We don't have kids yet so I'm sure they dynamic will change when that happens. We have both been working full-time jobs (both work similar hours) but I have recently (as of last Friday) cut down to part-time so that I can get a specialized degree in my field. I'm sure this will change the dynamics as well.

Grocery Shopping 50/50 (do it together)
