At out school you can visit after stopping in the office to get a pass. It's a high school though so I am not quite sure what I would do once I gained access. Help teach AP Chemistry maybe?

You folks have no idea how many incidents there have been when unescorted parents have walked into schools and caused disruptions.

Elementary and a few middle schools do not have security and the police have to be called.

Because they haven't done a background screening on every single parent.

At my kid's school we are allowed to walk our children to their classrooms. Must vary from school to school.

This and it prevents teachers from having to hold impromptu parent meetings when they need to be getting ready to teach.

For the first day of kindergarten at our school, you can walk into the all purpose room where the kids line up. Then parents can stay for coffee in the teachers lounge. But you don't get to go to your kid's room.

Another thing that isn't permitted at our school is early dismissal within the last fifteen minutes of the school day. Same issue - not wanting people in the school that close to dismissal for safety reasons.

The policy varies by school. If you don't like your school's policy, bring it up with the PTA. In our school, parents in the past were able to walk the students to the classrooms, and it became very VERY crowded in the hall. The new policy last year was that parents could come into the main foyer, say their goodbyes and send the kids down the hall "alone" to their classroom.

I think it's a safety issue, with so many parents crowding the halls, and I can imagine the "tone" is much better with students coming into the class independently. It separates home with parents from school with teachers.

We can walk into the cafeteria where the little kids line up, but we can't walk into the classrooms...which is fine with me. Kids need to learn the routine of lining up with their class, etc.

co-op? like a preschool?

If so, you can't even compare the two.

It makes it so much easier to do the 1st day drop off, you don't have to worry about your child clinging to you and screaming about going in.
It makes it easier for everyone involved and in the long rn it's safer for kids if parents aren't allowed in the rooms.
We are in MoCo and you are always allowed to volunteer to help the teachers and volunteer for holiday parties too so it's not like you are never allowed in the room
There was an incident where a crazy angry parent went past the office into the classroom and screamed at a little girl (under grade 3) who she thought was bullying her child
Both kids ended up crying and it really upset the other students
This is an example of why parents aren't allowed to go to the classrooms

No..my school allows it and so many parents so on the first day (mostly in K and 1) that they have to make an announcement that the school day is beginning and the parents should depart. It sounds like you are coming from a small school. If there are 25 kids in a Moco K class, imagine the chaos of a parent or 2 lingering through the am...though I am sure that was not your intention.

Just moved here from another state - what is up with not being able to walk dc into classroom, let alone into the building? We have to drop off outside the doors. Thoughts? Very disturbing for us, coming from a co-operative school with parents welcome inside classrooms and building. Is this countywide?
